During the Middle Ages, the area of London we now know as Belgravia was once known as the Five Fields. This swampy marshland, intersected by footpaths, consisted of a series of fields used for grazing. Located between London and the village of Knightsbridge, this agricultural land by day was a notoriously dubious place by night, frequently plagued by highwaymen. The Grosvenor family began development of the area in the 1820s, and Belgravia (named after Belgrave, a village in Cheshire on Grosvenor land), is renowned for some of London’s most expensive homes in stately squares, luxury hotels and international embassies, all set within beautiful crescents and enchanting mews.
